Iron is an essential mineral found in a wide variety of foods. Iron is used in the body as a constituent of h¨moglobin. Moglobin makes up around 90% of red blood cells and is therefore an important element in oxygen transmission. A lack of iron can lead to anaemia, which in turn can result in a poor oxygen supply. The consequences are fatigue, exhaustion and many other anemia-related illnesses.
Iron is mainly suggested by doctors during pregnancy. But it's not only pregnant women who can suffer from iron deficiency. Women can lose a lot of blood, and therefore iron, during their periods. Vegetarians and vegans also need to pay attention to iron in their diet, as iron is mainly found in offal and other animal products. Iron deficiency due to anemia can be well controlled with iron supplements.
