Coenzyme Q10 is a molecule that can be absorbed from the diet or manufactured by our bodies. In every cell of our body, energy from food is converted into ATP. As a coenzyme, Q10 is involved in the production of energy in the form of ATP. Organs such as the heart, lungs and liver have the highest concentration of Q10. Coenzyme Q10 is also an antioxidant.(1) Antioxidants help fight free radicals, thereby reducing the risk of disease.
A skin biopsy of elderly people showed that mitochondrial function in the skin was reduced. This is linked to lower levels of coenzyme Q10. (2) 

Who needs coenzyme Q10 as a dietary supplement?
