What would it be like if you didn't throw away crayon stubs, but planted them and had the pleasure of seeing something tasty and beautiful grow from them?

We asked ourselves that very question, and Sprout was invented.

High standards - high quality pencil body made from sustainable cedar wood. Sprout is handmade in Minnesota in the USA.

How it's done
It's not easy to get seeds to germinate and a big, beautiful plant to thrive. It takes active care and diligence to grow fresh creepers from the crayon.

The Sprout crayon contains organic seeds. Did you know that…the Sprout crayon does not contain lead? Planting or eating the herbs that grow from the pencil is therefore völlig risk-free.

PLAY
Sprout is a high quality pencil made of cedar wood. At the crayon end, the pencil contains a seed capsule activated by water. If this is exposed to moisture, the seed decomposes and begins to germinate.

GROWING
Water your sprout regularly and provide plenty of sunlight.
The sprout needs direct sunlight to germinate and grow.
Expect 2-3 weeks for the sprout to germinate and 4-5 weeks for you to use your fresh seeds for cooking.

"Sprout" is the name of the project from the USA, which began in 2012 to bring a sustainable pencil to the market.

The pencil is manufactured using cedar wood from sustainable sources. The pencil does not contain lead, but graphite and clay.

For their part, the makers are still nibbling away at two problems: Transport from the U.S. to Europe is anything but environmentally friendly, so they are still working on a solution. And even after writing and planting, a small pencil stub remains. It's non-toxic, but still there.
